RHODES

Rhodes was a great day. We docked under yet another brilliantly blue sky, (we still hadn't seen a cloud all week,)  and walked the short distance to the town.

Rhodes Old Town is at the north end of the island and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988 as it is one of the best preserved medieval towns in Europe.

Lovely cobbled streets (good example of perspective)

Naturally there were the usual shenanigans at the Palace of the Grand Masters

A Brucie,

A Bolt,

A Mo.

I didn't see anyone else stood on the pillar, what were they messing about at?

Inside the Palace were some beautiful mosaic tiled floors..

and outside was a rather nice bar offering free wifi if we bought a beer.

Minorets and Mosques

The Old Town is still surrounded by the walls built by the Knights of St John and were very impressive, they were very wide

with good views over the town...

The people here make good use of the sunlight by using solar panels, the roofs were full of them, all twinkling in the sunshine.

BUT I HAD A SEA TO SWIM IN

so we left the castle area

and passed Drake's marina

AND DIDN'T HIT THE BEACH!!
Look at it!
What is going on with all these pebbles?
Where is the sand?
Where is the SPACE?

So while Husb parked himself on a park bench, I crawled into the sea and had  A FANTASTIC half an hour (till my goggles broke GRRRRR)
There were so many fish ! The sea was so warm! It was just beautiful.

There was a lot of activity out at sea -  leaping, jumping and bombing off the boards... it was great.

(if you ignored the pebbles!)

Anyway once my goggles had broken and there was no way I could re-knot them any tighter, they were already on their 9th life, we walked back into town for another wifi beer (!!)
through the arches

through the castle area

round some back streets
where
we somehow
found

a Marks and Spencers!

Well fancy that.

As well as a nice dress shop.
(I've never had a maxi dress before but I have got one now)

Nano cruises were docked next to us when we got back.

Fish with eyelashes? Come on, I know fish wear hats and lipstick but they DON'T have eyelashes.

A great day in Rhodes turned out to be a FANTASTIC day in Rhodes after that swim in the sea and if it could possibly get any better, it DID when we had tea..

.Cod steaks for starters (they were supposed to be main course)
King crab legs (massive) (delish!)
Lobster (just because)
2 x fillet steaks EACH
(why have potatoes or bread?)
Raspberry sorbet

OH MY WORD

Bye Rhodes, thankyou for a lovely day =)
