On the Dee on Lady Diana

Having spent the week sorting out Dad`s eyes, toenails, shoes, washing etc, it was time for a treat, so today we were Chester tourists. We went down to the River Dee and had a sail on the Lady Diana. It was great, the boat was half full, we were accompanied by a selection of ducks and we saw several rowing clubs in action....

Here we are passing a tower which looks like a fairytale castle. It was, in fact, the home of Tom Hughes, author of "TOM BROWN`S SCHOOLDAYS"

This part of the river is a straight mile and many top class rowers from all over the country come here to train

Overlooking the weir... the weir has 2 main functions, one is to keep a constant water level above the weir, the second is to provide power for the mill on the other side of the bridge.

Then it was back to the car. Ive always loved this building frontage...
"The Bear and Billet" pub!
