Departure day was an eventful day.
We had booked train tickets for 9pm that NIGHT so that DAY I did
an Aerobics class, two Spin classes and made a visit to a 96 year old lady to stock her up with essentials which took far longer than expected, so it was just as well I had very sensibly done most of the packing the day before.
An hour after the second Spin we were on the train to Birmingham International and being quizzed/interrogated by a law student who was sat opposite us. She had seen our GUIDE to CUBA book on the table and was just trying to be friendly but she just didn't stop, bless her.
Anyway the THOMSON DREAMLINER did the job and we had a very smooth flight with a nice warm scone and we landed in Montego Bay at about 3pm local time to find our cases in our cabin. No carousel malarkey! <== Big Tick.
We saw our first sunset and waited for the Gatwick flight people to arrive.
Dolly the Elly made herself at home.
But still no sign of the Gatwickers.
They did arrive eventually, the plane had broken (broken?) in Cancun, but rather in Cancun than in the sky.... and next day we arrived at our first port...
Grand Cayman.
Which didn't really happen...as you can tell (above) by the clouds looming in the background.
If I had known we were going to have stopstart showers all day I would have stayed in the sea longer.
But it was a lovely day.
When the silly taxi man was finally ready to actually take us.
He wanted a full bus and wasn't going till he HAD a full bus, however hot it was sitting in it, waiting.
Grand Cayman has superb sandy beaches.
Seven Mile Beach is the most popular and most developed area of Grand Cayman.
It has sand to die for (well you know what I'm like about sand) and fantastically turquoise sea which I swam in, but it is all hidden from view as the coastline is so built up with condos and swanky hotels.
On our bike ride last year we could hardly see the sea.
This year we went to Calico Joe beach (crowded and expensive) but didn't stay long as the clouds were threatening rain. To be fair it was warm rain and I was already wet from the sea but we walked all the way back along Seven Mile Beach to the boat, 3 miles ish, along the beach with the sea lapping our feet. and it was absolutely lovely.
What a shame its all hidden behind buildings.
We also sat and watched a bit of Fly Boarding at Royal Palm Beach.
Crikey.
Tux and (Nic's) Sparkly Dicky Bow were the order of the night for the Captain's Gala night but I have no idea where he got that drink from. Or what it was. It just fell into his hand. Oopsieee.
