WELL!
We've been on an actual Maldive!!!
Who would have thought that!?
But we just did.
(Well, we did in July) (oopsie)
Now we've been to Australia, everywhere else seems really near.
Drakey took us to the station (after painting my nails orange) and we went
Chester to Birmingham to Dubai to Male to Meeru,
The final leg being on this speedboat.
Tuesday 3rd July and the Jolly Hollies were on an Actual Maldive. YAY!
:)
We stayed in a "Jacuzzi Beach Villa" for the week and it did exactly what it said on the tin.
A villa on the beach with a jacuzzi hot tub outside.
This was the view from our window.
And this was our back garden.
Where I accidentally left Husb stranded outside, needing a wee, cos I hadn't heard him knocking while I was doing my step-ups.
Oooops.
Before we had even unpacked, though, we HAD to have a feel of that sand.
That sand though....
That SAND.
And anyway a walk round the island would keep us awake.
We arrived early morning Tuesday so we were able to try out our highly recommended full face snorkel masks before afternoon tea in the Dhoni Bar and then watch the World Cup England game v Columbia.
England had come second in Group G.
Had we won the group we'd have been playing Monday night and we would have been in the sky.
The trouble was, it was on from 11pm-1am.
Would we stay awake after all that travelling??
To be honest we were falling asleep over the first half, so we walked back to watch the second half in our villa hoping the walk would wake us up.
90 minutes was enough.
And then...
PENALTIES??? OMG PENALTIES???!
(For the record...we won on pens and we totally overslept next morning.)
Meeru is a beautiful island.
It's pure sand though.
If you're going, don't pack heels, they're hopeless.
"NO NEWS NO SHOES"
Flip flops all the way.
We saw so many fruit bats. especially when we were in the hot tub.
Husb has had a new love of water on this holiday.
Hot tub AND snorkeling!
Warm sea and plenty of fish had something to do with this.
Meeru is walkaroundable in about 40 minutes.
We weren't stomping!
And we kept stopping to plank.
The room maids had very kindly left us a bottle of Moet and Chandon.
Breakfast was always delightful.
What a setting.
Two of my favourite things.
Tea and sand.
Together......bliss.
The locals use their resources well.
There is a water desalination plant on the island.
ans everything that can be, is made out of coconuts.
Oils, shells, leaves etc are all used.

MeeruMan got around a bit.
We kept following his footsteps!
Challenge #16

No news-No shoes.
Cricket on the football pitch.
Challenge #47
Try a new food.
Completed.
Two new foods.
Challenge #26
Visit 3 New Museums
Well here is one of them!
And, yes, one morning we woke up to quite torrential rain and crazy wind.
We then realised we were on the wild side of the island because when we ventured out for our lap, the other side of the island seemed very calm and dry.
Challenge #49
Go to the Driving Range.
SOOOOO completed.
We went 4 times!!!
I hit it straight!
(It might not have been far but "Accuracy takes precedence over distance")
Tree roots are fascinating aren't they....
Oh did England beat Sweden???
Like TWO-NIL?!!
Little did we know we would be so suitably dressed for a Glow Party!
Our Skiathos wedding tees came up trumps.
Land Ahoy!
Except that it wasn't.
GREAT MINDS PLANK ALIKE
A tree among trees.
Bananas!
The bananas were so tasty.
Challenge #43
Swim in 3 new seas
INDIAN OCEAN ...Tick!!
Top of the island...
Middle of the island...
Bottom of the island....
...and a PLANK up a PALM TREE!
It was a brilliant week. Husb has never been in the water so much.
There were opportunities for water sports. snorkeling trips, turtle trips. sunset cruises and yoga classes and there was a lovely LOVELY pool for actual SWIMMING IN (I front crawled past all those canoodlers round the side) and the food and sea and sand were just ace.
GO.
But don't pack shoes.
Meanwhile, back at home, Drakey was becoming a TRIATHLETE!!
