What a pretty little place Akaroa is.
This enchanting town is now the port for cruise ships after Christchurch's Lyttleton Harbour was damaged by the earthquake of 2011.
Christchurch's loss is Akaroa's gain. WE LOVED IT.
There were Dorys on the pavements.
It was cloudy when we docked in Akaroa but the clouds soon cleared once we were out in the bay on the Black Cat Cruises Dolphin Trip. We sat right at the front of the boat and saw lots of Hector's Dolphins (the smallest type of dolphin) frolicking alongside the boat and having fun in the bow wave.
Turquoise water and spectacular scenery, waterfalls, rocks and fur seals...and an exhilerating ride back with the wind wrecking our hair....ACE!...
but we hadn't realised how burnt our faces were getting. EEEK
The fishnchips at MurphysOnTheCorner were So Good.
They totally hit the spot after the boat trip.
Who knew moki fish was so moist and meaty.
Pudding was a Mr Whippy style ice cream that was dipped in hot melting chocolate.
Piano playing on the prom.
It's what they do in Akaroa.
A brisk walk up a steep hill took us to the GIANT'S HOUSE
What an absolute treat.
The terraced gardens full of sculptures and mosaics are a feast for the eyes,
The thousands of brightly coloured tiles that twinkle in the sun are fun and amusing but also a testimony to the hours of work by artist Josie Martin. She was always a painter but turned to sculpture in 1993 and over the years has transformed her house into a myriad of colours and a "seriously playful celebration of life".
