River Cruise MELK 2

Up early for a decent brekky and on the 8am train to Melk....
...part one of our 3 way Combi ticket...
train to Melk
river to Krems
train back to Vienna.

Melk was pretty but

 Melk IS Melk Abbey. WOW!
It totally dominates and is stunning.

The guided tour began at 11am so we wandered around first.

Views from the North Bastion Tower of the gardens.

A display of dancing in the tearooms.

A spot of monkeying around.

Melky Mirrors.

And then the guided tour.

PRAY AND WORK AND READ.
The Rule of St Benedict and the base of education for centuries.

The model village shows how dominating Melk Abbey is.

The Abbey is still in use today. Two monks teach in the school there. Yes, some of the rooms are classrooms. We could see the basketball rings and scoreboard in the school gym. What a place to go to school!! 900 children have that privilege.  Our tour guide's boss was a monk. We were in time for prayers so stayed for the prayer service with the monks. We felt honoured to have been able to share that time with them, this was their life.

The library.
