ST LUCIA!!
ST LUCIA!! ST LUCIA!!
WE MADE IT!
Ever since we saw the cricket coverage from here we have wanted to visit this island.
We were persuaded by a nice little (enthusiastic) man on the quayside ... TO DO ALL THIS.
Great decision!
We had a little glimpse of Lucian life, a walk through a rainforest, a visit to his mum Georgina, Georgina's kitchen, then the afternoon shopping or on Rodney beach.
(Rodney beach of course.)
He took us up, up and up the hill and round the bay to the rainforest area where he was brought up.
This straw hut would have housed about 9 people,
7 would sleep on the floor, mum and baby/youngest in the hammock.
Kenwyn Ken by the bay leaf tree..
..before bird calling.
I'm glad this snake was in a box.
Husb the Explorer.
Back to Momma's kitchen for little tasters of Lucian food.
The coconut husk garden.
This was engagement... the joining of two halves.
Marriage... heart shaped husks design.
Honeymoon... hammock shaped haha :)
Ken showed us how fab he was at cracking coconuts.
Cocoa beans.
Cinnamon bark.
Cat's whiskers.
Red bananas.
We had sampled fruit and coconut and sugar cane and it had only taken just over an hour.
Culture over.. let's hit the beach!
RODNEY BAY BEACH
Beautiful sand, turquoise sea, strong current, (THAT surprised me,) and
OMG a HORRENDOUS smell of garlic on the beach. Evil stuff.
I had to get in the sea to avoid the smell. How can anyone LIKE that stuff?
We got back to the ship just before the heavens opened. And we had learnt that when it rains in the Caribbean, it really rains. Great day though, we loved it.
However we hadn't been to ANTIGUA yet.
Our little cabbie, Darwin, soon worked out we liked the ginger biscuits.
Good man.
We were soooo well fed.
That night my palm tree avocado starter had pine nuts, beetroot and raspberry jus.
All my favourite ingredients.
