Seychelles.PRASLIN

Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve
In the heart of the small island of Praslin, the reserve has the vestiges of a natural palm forest preserved in almost its original state. The famous coco de mer, from a palm-tree once believed to grow in the depths of the sea, is the largest seed in the plant kingdom.

We had an hour at the Vallee de Mai, a palm forest which remains largely unchanged since prehistoric times. The sun shone through the huge fronds creating some fabulous colours and we had fun with the massively heavy coco de mer, the largest seeds (seeds!) in the world.

You wouldn't want one of those landing on your head.

The sun dappling through the fronds created some gorgeous colours of greens, reds, browns...it really was a pretty forest.

The Black Parrots, found only here on Praslin, were making themselves heard.

The parrot is found only on the island of Praslin, where its main breeding area is limited by the availability of mature palm forest to the Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve and the lower part of Fond Peper in Praslin National Park.

Such a pretty forest had to be planked in.

An hour later and we were back in the car on our way to Anse Lazio.

Anse Lazio.
We could have stayed here for the day-the beach was gorgeous, the sand was amazing, the sea was warm and clear.

Ooooosh! that sand..........

We took hats for our Christmas card photo but whether we actually used  it was another story!
(Something to do with a new kitchen, the minute we got home!)

We had a lovely hour and could have stayed here longer...
But we had a boat trip to Curieuse Island booked.
The giant tortoises were waiting!

Aldabra Tortoises are the largest tortoises in the world,
there are over 300 of them roaming around the island.

This lady was innocently eating a banana...and didn't Torty know it!!
She had no choice but to share.

Giant Tortoises on an Actual Seychelle was one of my highlights.
So I planked with her.

But we had to press on.
Another glorious beach awaited.

HOW did this rock stay up here?

This one even looked like a tortoise.

The German cruise ship had beaten us to the beach!
There were orange brollies everywhere.
We obviously didn't have an orange brolly but we were still offered a rum from the free bar and, well, why wouldn't we??

AliHolli Fitness on a Seychelle.

We had had such a lovely day...
massive "coconuts",
green, brown and red fonds,
Black Parrots,
Giant tortoises,
fantastic scenery,
two warm seas,
two lots of brilliant sand,
twinkly water,
 free rum,
all in the Seychelles.
Ali and Mike on an actual Seychelle.
Amazing.
